New Look

You may notice some changes to our BLOG.

Mrs Hunter wanted to make it more user friendly for her students and their visitors.

Lucy's Tea Party, which is proving to be very popular, with over 1 000 views has been moved to a page of its own. You can access it via 'PAGES' on our sidebar. Unfortunately the comments we'd already received have been deleted during this process. We'd really appreciate your feedback again. It's very motivating.

We have also added another page 'Environmental Sustainability'. Feel free to access this page and have a go at our 'Kitchener Park Quiz'. BUT remember to also leave your comments, because we'd love to know how you got on.

Room 4 students would like to share their favourite gymnastics apparatus.

Some students share their thoughts:

Trevor - I think I am much better than I was at the start of gymnastics. I was learning to stand correctly when finishing cartwheels. I like gymnastics and I was motivated by my teachers and my classmates to get better, because they all encouraged me.

Alexander - Since I brought my gymnastics gear everyday I've been able to participate a lot. My favourite apparatus is the vault. I was working on my speed and my landing.

Cara - I've enjoyed gymnastics this term. I remembered to bring my gear everyday. I am really good at the vault and I was trying to get better at my landings.

Holly - I am good at forward rolls. I practice a lot at home and that's why I'm so good.

Riki - I am good at the bar. It is my favourite apparatus. I twist around properly and I have been working on nailing my landing. I have to use my tummy muscles to land softly.

Jack - I am very good at the vault, because I get good height when I jump. I plant my feet on the ground when I land and that helps me to keep still and finish correctly.

Kitchener Park

Earlier this year Room 4 visited Kitchener Park in Feilding as part of our learning about ‘Environmental Sustainability’.

The park was extremely valuable in supporting our learning and it ignited an enthusiasm about caring for our natural environment. We learnt a lot from the parks curator, Gavin Scott and his helpers Gabe Taiti and Mr Governor.

These photos were taken on a trip to Mr Scott's place. Room 4 students enjoyed learning from the expert and they enjoyed the afternoon tea too.



As a follow on from our visit to Kitchener Park we investigated ways of contributing to our local community. We made a collage to show our learning and we thought it was a great advertisement for Kitchener Park, so we donated it to the District Council. It now on display in the Feilding Public Library.

More Principal's certificates for room 4.

On Friday, 4 teams from Halcombe School particated in the Manawatu Mathex Competition. Mathex is a problem solving competition and students compete in year group competitions with 4 students per team. The year 5 team had two year 4 students - Olivia and Jago.

Mrs Simpson awarded Principal certificates to Olivia and Jago for their outstanding achievement in maths.
