Disco
On Friday the 29th October the student council held a disco. The senior disco started at 7.30 and we boggied away until 9.00. It was so much fun and we all had a good time. We also got to eat lots of sweets and drink lots of fizzy, because the student council sold these as a fundraiser. We were very proud of Jaxson, Hannah and Alexander, because they all were all finalists for the limbo dance. In the end Alexander was the winner and he won a chocolate bar. You can watch them on this video.

Congratulations
Jack
Jack received a principals certificate on Friday 15 October for his dedication to cross country training. Mrs Simpson thinks Jack is one of the best long distance runners she has seen in a long time. Jack went on to win the Year 4-5 boys cross country race last Thursday and he is now heading off to Hunterville to represent Halcombe School in an interschool competition.

Pyjama Day
On Friday the 17th September the Student Council held a Pyjama Day. Most of us wore Pyjamas to school and had a fun day. We were asked to bring a gold coin donation to support the SPCA. The school raised $175. It was a strange experience coming to school in our pyjamas, especially for our relieving teacher, Mrs Alcock. Even our principal wore her nightie too. Some of us were very embarrassed, because while waiting for our bus in Feilding, we got lots of strange looks. The high school students laughed at us, but really we didn’t let it worry us too much. There were spot prizes on the day. Our class spot prizes were won by Jahden and Tyler. We hope we have another pyjama day next year.

New Look
You may notice some changes to our BLOG.
Mrs Hunter wanted to make it more user friendly for her students and their visitors.
Lucy's Tea Party, which is proving to be very popular, with over 1 000 views has been moved to a page of its own. You can access it via 'PAGES' on our sidebar. Unfortunately the comments we'd already received have been deleted during this process. We'd really appreciate your feedback again. It's very motivating.
We have also added another page 'Environmental Sustainability'. Feel free to access this page and have a go at our 'Kitchener Park Quiz'. BUT remember to also leave your comments, because we'd love to know how you got on.

Sports Stars
Room 4 students would like to share their favourite gymnastics apparatus.
Some students share their thoughts:
Trevor - I think I am much better than I was at the start of gymnastics. I was learning to stand correctly when finishing cartwheels. I like gymnastics and I was motivated by my teachers and my classmates to get better, because they all encouraged me.
Alexander - Since I brought my gymnastics gear everyday I've been able to participate a lot. My favourite apparatus is the vault. I was working on my speed and my landing.
Cara - I've enjoyed gymnastics this term. I remembered to bring my gear everyday. I am really good at the vault and I was trying to get better at my landings.
Holly - I am good at forward rolls. I practice a lot at home and that's why I'm so good.
Riki - I am good at the bar. It is my favourite apparatus. I twist around properly and I have been working on nailing my landing. I have to use my tummy muscles to land softly.
Jack - I am very good at the vault, because I get good height when I jump. I plant my feet on the ground when I land and that helps me to keep still and finish correctly.

Kitchener Park
Earlier this year Room 4 visited Kitchener Park in Feilding as part of our learning about ‘Environmental Sustainability’.
The park was extremely valuable in supporting our learning and it ignited an enthusiasm about caring for our natural environment. We learnt a lot from the parks curator, Gavin Scott and his helpers Gabe Taiti and Mr Governor.
These photos were taken on a trip to Mr Scott's place. Room 4 students enjoyed learning from the expert and they enjoyed the afternoon tea too.
As a follow on from our visit to Kitchener Park we investigated ways of contributing to our local community. We made a collage to show our learning and we thought it was a great advertisement for Kitchener Park, so we donated it to the District Council. It now on display in the Feilding Public Library.

More Principal's certificates for room 4.
On Friday, 4 teams from Halcombe School particated in the Manawatu Mathex Competition. Mathex is a problem solving competition and students compete in year group competitions with 4 students per team. The year 5 team had two year 4 students - Olivia and Jago.
Mrs Simpson awarded Principal certificates to Olivia and Jago for their outstanding achievement in maths.

A second for Room 4 and a second for this family.
Stefan received a Principal's certificate for improvement in reading. We are all proud of you Stefan. Keep up the good work.
All students in Room 4 are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every night. Many students have chapter books from the school library and others have reading books selected by the teacher.

Congratulations
AALIYAH
At Friday's assembly Aaliyah was awarded a Principal's certificate for achievement in maths.
This week we completed the 'Halcombe School Basic Facts Test', with some students making significant improvement.
Students complete four tests, one for each domain (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Each test is made up of 63 questions which they have four minutes to answer. Halcombe School's expectation is that by the end of year 6 students will gain 95% or above in each test.
Aaliyah is a year 4 student who achieved 100% in all four tests. Congratulations Aaliyah, your hard work has paid off.

Absolutely Amazing Art
Jane Lloyd Art Workshop
On Tuesday June 15th we all attended an art workshop run by Jane Lloyd. She taught us how to create cartoon faces.
We all enjoyed it and we were amazed at our artistic abilities. With Jane Lloyd, we were all artists. Thanks Jane.
